Assessment of the Restoration of the Remolar Dune System (Viladecans, Barcelona): The Resilience of a Coastal Dune System

The Remolar beach-dune system (700 m long and more than 100 wide, 070N direction) borders a campground that was closed (2003), due to the Barcelona airport expansion. In order recover restore dune ecosystem, series of soft measures were performed. After 10 years, study morphology, sedimentology, vegetation ecosystem carried out evaluate results these measures. For this purpose, topographic ground-penetrating radar (GPR) profiles, grain-size analysis, an analysis plant communities found along profiles out. data obtained compared with from former 2004 study. show morphology dunes recovered, new primary has arisen. now greater process aggradation progradation. recovered global composition systems, typical community embryo others are set in strips parallel coast. Despite improvement, opportunistic ruderal component evidences strong anthropic inheritance system.
